You also mentioned the discoloring on the Reflections. There are a few late 90s/early 00s UD sets that fell victim to greening almost exactly like the Topps sets up until ~1998. Check out the '04 mj trilogy gold that I posted recently in the rolling mailday thread, you can see that it's slightly greened. Your Peja looks like it still has perfect color though.

I figured it was a good buy since it goes for about the same as his 1999 Ultimate Collection which is also /100, with the added benefit of not having 20 different friggin cards in the set. Have you ever seen the /10 versions in hand? Curious how those look.

Back on the train with Bobby Jax, the Kings 6th man who was signed as a free agent in 2000 and eventually won 6MOY in 2003. A fan favorite whose energy and effort off the bench was contagious. It was awesome that he came back to the Kings after several seasons to retire with the team after the 09-10 season. After being an assistant coach for many years and the head coach of the Stockton Kings for a season or two, he is now in Philly on Nick Nurse's coaching staff.

I have only a few cards of his, but I feel like they're some fan favorites, generally speaking.

Various golds (refractor) - anyone know what's up with the Reflections gold? It looks like there's some...greening? on it. I don't know if that's normal in general for the set? On the golds only? Do I just have a defective copy?

I know, easily available and cheap, but I can't even get myself to shell out the $2.25 for this card that's available on COMC. Maybe the five star /299 is the way to go considering it's cheaper on ebay than the base.

That Chrome Gold is so A-E-S-T-H-E-T-I-C and that Patch is so JUICY. Pairs so well with the green foil.

Thanks all around. What stands out is the Webber comments just cuz it's Panini praise So the 99 ultimate has 20 MJs?? That's pretty wild, I feel like UD got way too crazy with the MJs in the late 90s and maybe even through the 2000s. So diluting of those cards. But MJ cards are a can of worms I've never opened because of its enormity. I've never seen the Trilogy /10s in hand. I feel like those early and mid 00s UD rainbow spectrums (?) /10 are impossible to find.

Didn't know the Holofames were prone to that too. I feel like my JWill does have a subtle hint of the greening.

Thank you Abra! I actually much prefer the Finest gold to the chrome. The Finest is just a lot more vibrant and bright. The Chrome feels a little dull. Regarding the patch, the purple Kings colors with green parallels are among my favorite color combos on a card! Chunky patches help of course

Ha, when you mentioned purple and gold, I actually didn't think of the Lakers but it did elicit some reaction...that's definitely why I don't know what it is, but I actually might prefer green and purple on cards. It may just be my subconscious pushing me away from gold since that's what the masses like. Good luck on the KG or VC golds, I"m sure those would cost a pretty penny. I do think golds have become so...overvalued. Definitely look great but so pumped.

At the end of the week, I have a huge lot of parallel (mostly numbered?) and inserts coming in that'll add a significant chunk to what I've already shared, as well as Gerald Wallace, who I haven't shown yet. But I'll show the Crash stuff I have now, and then just have a post with the entire lot pickup when it comes in.



Only three Wallace cards at the moment in the PC, but with one of them being his Topps MVP Promo rookie and another being his lowest number topps pristine refractor RC /250 (overall lowest numbered rc refractor aside from his chrome black which is /50), feels like a decent trio. Wallace will be one of the players who will be majorly featured in this week's lot pickup.

MVP Promotion! Kyle (Deadshot) got me into those years ago and i've been slowly building Nuggets sets of those as I find them.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for Kings MVP promos for you. They don't pop up all that often anymore sadly.

Here are some detailed photos of the lot. Tried not to make them annoyingly large, hopefully I didn't overcorrect and make them annoyingly small. Probably should've gone chronologically in some capacity but I kinda just went in the order I process them. I know most look at a lot of low value inserts, rc, and numbered and think "meh, just quantity over quality" but I think that adage is inherently flawed. These are cards. Isn't what they look like what makes them high quality rather than their value or even scarcity?

Anyway, player by player look with thoughts here and there:
Gerald Wallace

The first three images are the rcs in the lot organized by manufacturer.

• UD and Fleer love the white designs and Topps really embraced the Wizards blue on multiple releases with MJ's return.
• Topps designs have the best variety and don't feel repetitive.
• Simultaneously I appreciate the unique card designs like the Game Film and Authentix that incorporate different elements to the cards.

Francisco Garcia

Some more vet base I didn't include, but not a very extensive addition to the Cisco PC, though I do like the Flagship/Chrome and Bowman/Chrome RCs together.

I didn't realize til now how much I like that Chrome has in game photos of rookies, as with Gerald Wallace. If Optic did that for rookies vs. Donruss, I really think that would elevate the product. I wonder when that started because I know in 98 with JWill and Peja flagship and chrome had the same photos.

Kevin Martin

• Was this the last year Pristine base was chromium? The next year, which was above (Garcia) was paper. Not sure if they still had refractors or what not
• Feels like UD really stepped up their game with designs. Much more variety compared to just a few years earlier with Wallace. I'm a nerd, but I wonder if that was bc LeBron and UD stepping things up all around in 03-04
• Not sure I've seen or noticed this before, but parallels like the Luxury Box and and the gold bazooka are thicker than their base counterparts.

Hedo Turkoglu

Not sure what it is, but I like a lot of Hedo's photoshoot photos on his rookies. Lots of action shots and posed ones are funny to me.

Mike Bibby

• My third copy of the Premium Emerald for some reason lol
• That Photo Effex card is awful
• Pretty cool bc I have the Christie from the same Gold Medallion and Bowman Gold sets
• Bibby is my next player focus coming up next, and I'm excited for it because I have a good chunk of Bibbys

Peja Stojakovic

Not a lot of Pejas and no RCs, but I like the draft class with Nash and the Peja/Vlade at the bottom pair nicely with the Christie /299 I have. Anyone know the difference between the Vlade and Peja Finites here? Different numbering but look exactly the same to me.

Jason Williams

I must be the king (no pun intended) of low end Jason Williams inserts. I imagine his flashiness got him included in a lot of those insert sets too. Love the double feature because of the team collecting and featuring multiple players from the same team.

Speaking of high inclusion, as the best player on the team, I'm sure Webber was also in a lot of those late 90s and early 00s low end sets. Great photos on nearly all of them.

Almost two months since the last update (end of the school year and had a child, so you know focused elsewhere), but next up is one of the last few members of the Kings glory days; I think only Brad Miller remains. Bibby was really the key that unlocked the Kings from really fun playoff team to serious title contender and he quickly turned the team into title favorites in 2002 and 2003. '02 was the controversial conference finals against the Lakers and '03 was the year Webber shredded his knee in the conference semis, which ultimately shut the door on the team's contending window. Bibby was an excellent game manager and was the team's clutch shot maker, most notably hitting the game winner in Game 5 of that series vs. LA. He and Miller were the last remaining players from the glory years until being traded away in 2008 to the Hawks in Bibby's case. He came back and worked doing game coverage in the last few year's and was just hired to head Sac State's basketball program.

Since Bibby spent his first three seasons with the Grizzlies, I have none of his rookies, but here are his (mostly playing days) cards that I own, organized by manufacturer/card type:

UD stands out again (not in a good way) with the heavy white/team color combo on all their designs. Kinda boring. Shoutout Bobby Jax shadow on that Exquisite base! Also never realized how similar those Spx and luxury box designs are to each other.

All on card, including two IP. I love that prizm 2015 silver with the IP auto. Don't mind that absolute green /5 either.

GU

Snagged that Elevation gold from my LCS. Was fun to find a Kings gold down in a SoCal LCS.

Very surprised how few Panini cards I have of Bibby, especially autos and GU.

The last of the glory years players: Brad Miller.

From undrafted to 2x all star. Probably one of the best undrafted players ever. He was signed to replace Scot Pollard and was definitely an upgrade as a backup center, who became the starting center after Vlade left. Still loves Sacramento and shows up to games and a really fun social media follow. First card still at COMC, imma count it as a Brad Miller 1/1 too lol

I love the idea of the big game set, really cool to chronicle a “big game” in the player’s career, and a 3 card rainbow is my kind of rainbow. That blue is so pretty. Simultaneously, big fail on Topps’ part to include a random photo from a different game though.

Does anyone know about the SP game used auto? There’s a /25 and /100 parallel but they both look identical to me. Anyone know the difference?

I think that was it for those cards if memory serves, possible there is a lower numbered holofoil, but I'm not sure on that one.

I actually should’ve mentioned that the spgu auto /25 and /100 are both silver. Look identical. I attached one of the /25 for reference. Looks the same as my /100 lol

Thanks, I do really appreciate IP autos and want to get more into doing TTM autos. I’m just bad at taking the time to prep the card and envelopes and such. I’m not familiar with the spectaculars parallels. Drop em in here! Very white design and then I imagine there’s only so much to be done with the foil so interested to see what they look like

Probably time to bump this guy up. I spent a lot of time photo and videoing my Kevin Martin PC, who is the next guy on the list of Kings players. Drafted in 2004 with the 26th pick, he forged a really nice career for himself as a reliable scorer, averaging 17.4 points in his career and finishing as the runner up for Most Improved Player in 2006-07. He was really the next big thing in Sacramento who couldn’t fill the shoes of the Webbers and Pejas after they were traded. That said, seems like he had a great career for a 26th pick.

If you prefer a nerdy write up, here you go. I'm presenting these the way I store them: binder page for each manufacturer for RCs, then after all RCs a binder page for the vet cards by manufacturer in the page chronologically by release. Then autos and GU are stored in ZFolio style binders.
Fleer RCs

I like the variety here a lot, from colors to designs to photography. I wouldn't say the designs are my favorite, but the variety is refreshing. I found out while recording the RC vid that the photo on the Genuine and Fresh INk are the same moment from a RC year preseason game from different angles. Thought that was cool.

Topps RCs #1


Topps RCs #2

Topps ended up being my favorite crop of rookies. I think they're just the prettiest. The Pristine and Finest in particular are just clean, simple, beautiful, and elegant. I like the contrast of the photoshoot shots in Pristine to the action shots of Finest.

UD RCs

The most uninspired and unimpressive to me. I know UD was great with their mem and autos, but I feel like there's a lot to be desired here with at least the 04-05 rookie designs.

The one non-base/insert RC:

Topps Photoshoot RC auto. For those familiar with the set, really obscure and rare. This one is a non-pack inserted but given to players since there's no COA sticker on the back. I've never seen one of those of Martin, but I don't actively look for them since acquiring this about a year ago. It's a really popular set and someone on Instagram messaged me that they've impressively approached completion of the 03-04 set.

After Martin's RC year, Fleer filed for bankruptcy and was purchased by UD. All that to say, there are no fleer pages post 04-05, so we'll start with Topps:

Love that chrome refractor and as a big KD fan, I really associate those 07-08 designs with KD.


The artifacts parallels are sneaky hard to find. I can't find anything lower numbered than the gold /100, though I've again stopped looking. But mr_artifacts on instagram who is an Artifacts supercollector has mentioned he has trouble finding rare Artifacts parallels. The Premier is one of the prettiest base cards I can think of, at least among what I've been looking at in my collection recently. And the fact that it's /99 only is the cherry on top. I miss low numbered base sets.

The GU cards

Nothing spectacular, but as a team collector I love multi player cards and I think that Authentic Fabrics is really pretty. The gold foil doesn't hurt.

Panini Era:

Ahh, that's the stuff. My favorite KMart card that I own. Beautiful action shot, B&W photo to match the archives/historical theme. Incredible holofoil, both in amount and appearance. Awesome bold auto. I know NT has lots of stickers, but when they get it right with the photography, holofoil, and on card autos it's hard to beat. My personal preference too is a lack of team color, so ding ding ding.

What am I currently searching for?
1. 04-05 Finest Gold Refractor - Love these golds. I saw one recently on IG that just seemed so vibrant. I'm SO MAD that I missed a Blue Xfractor /25 on CardHobby bc I fell asleep before putting in a bid.
2. 08-09 UD Radiance base /299 - slangnrox and icollectwade on IG tipped me off to these. The latter showed me his wade and man it's an incredible base card. Will definitely beat out the Premier when it comes in. Is 08-09 having amazing base cards like a thing?
