Re: Bizzare Shill Bidding Episode on Dr Beckett Podcast
Another week, some more hobby craziness.
If the failed launch of Probstein's new auction wasn't bad enough, this forum thread highlights some alleged serious issues with user info and shill bidding.
Not surprising to see Kevin Burge mixed in with all those Probstein accounts.

Re: eBay Authenticity Guarantee program, your experience?
In 2024 I bought a National Treasures Mbappe Autograph from Probstein for low four digits. The card was advertised as a PSA 10 and the photo was very closely cropped. The card was sent to eBay Authentication, authenticated and later shipped to me. When the card arrived it was a raw card, not the PSA ...

I know zero collectors who were asking for this, lol.
Sniping is honestly one of the major benefits of the platform as a collector since you can often win something for cheaper than you would on the big auction sites. I specifically avoid those sites due to the extended bidding along with the ...

Re: 2025 NBA Playoffs Thread!
It sucks that one person on Blowout has made me root against the Pacers and one player in particular. I don't recall the last time I rooted against a player - maybe Melo.
Anyway, let's go Knicks.
His basketball takes may be questionable but I find Nomad charming haha

I really dislike it when people alter cards and that includes, of course, in person autographs.
There are so many interesting alternatives to get autographed - photos, balls, etc...

My favorite set design was the inaugural Upper Deck:

With its hardwood design, impressive photography and large checklist, it was a great first entry into basketball for UD.

Goldin Buying Experience
Hi all. Last night I made a purchase off of Goldin Auctions for the first time and wanted to share my experience. As full disclaimer, I have a low opinion of Ken Goldin, all that he does and all that he stands for. However, a PC 1/1 card showed up and I felt that I had no choice but to register and ...

Re: Do you watch modern basketball and do you collect modern players?
I have League Pass and watch a lot of modern basketball. I do buy cards of modern players - mostly Contenders rookies to keep the continuity going, and otherwise singles here and there. But pre-Covid I also used to open a lot of wax - it was one of my favorite activities and now seems unimaginable.

Thanks, 23.dead and mindcycle. Thanks also for the nice comment about my website.
Yes, I find collecting Gooden cards much more relaxing than my endeavor with JJ. I can just pick and choose what to buy without stressing too much over missing out.

I remember reading that long Blowout thread about Eagle Eye Joe and Brian Gray. Very interesting and damning, and none of it was surprising.
So many unscrupulous and/or incompetent people involved in grading - I hate it.

I believe there was a 1999-00 Autographics Purple Foil version (hand-numbered to 20 and stamped) inserted into some retail repack product in the early 2000s. Here's an example off eBay:

Re: When will 90s chase parallels start adjusting?
siuwongkee, I would advise not investing heavily in sports cards. This industry is in a way that it's nearly impossible to make significant money unless you a) already had cards before the Covid boom or b) cheat people. There is so much fraud in sports cards that I would only treat it as a hobby and ...

I have never liked Kabooms. That being said, I can't think of any other popular insert that has had the same length of continuity. Galactics? Not an insert set, I know.

I was very impressed when some BO members could solve the Ginter code breaking challenge in short time. Although Baseball was my ...
